Truman’s life and presidency. It spans his childhood, his “political apprenticeship” as a judge in Jackson County, Missouri, his years in the U.S. Senate, and his momentous two terms as president. Actor James Whitmore originated the role in 1975. Clifton Truman Daniel took up the mantle in October 2017, marking the first time in history a U.S. president would be portrayed onstage by a direct descendant.

Clifton Truman Daniel is the oldest grandson of President Harry S. Truman and his wife, Bess. He is the son of author Margaret Truman and former New York Times Managing Editor E. Clifton Daniel Jr. Clifton Truman Daniel is honorary chairman of the board of the Truman Library Institute and board secretary of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. He is the author of Growing Up With My Grandfather: Memories of Harry S. Truman and Dear Harry, Love Bess: Bess Truman’s Letters to Harry Truman, 1919-1943.

This performance is sponsored, in part, by the College of Liberal Arts and Education.
Thu, 16 Apr 2020 07:00:00 CDT Arts & Entertainment https://www.uwplatt.edu/events/2020/04/give-em-hell-harry Tai Chi https://www.uwplatt.edu/events/event/tai-chi-23

Tai chi is a time-honored Chinese exercise that resembles a slow dance. TBTN Events began in the 1960’s in Belgium and England with protests about how women were not able to be safe walking down the street alone. In 1973, in the United States, a group of women at the University of Southern Florida dressed in black sheets holding broomsticks and marched through campus demanding a women’s center. In 1975, a crowd in Philadelphia held a Take Back The Night Event to protest the murder of a microbiologist walking near her home after work. In the 70’s San Francisco had a number of rallies in protest “snuff” pornography and violence against women. These early events have grown into hundreds of events on college campuses and in communities of all sizes and locations. The unifying theme of these events is to bring awareness to sexual violence and provide support for victims.

The Doyle Center, alongside different department on campus, will host various stations that you can visit to hear and learn about the various facets of gender violence.
